A Beacon of Hope for Uganda
Twikyirize Mercy Asnath's story is one of resilience, compassion, and unwavering dedication to uplift the lives of others. Born into adversity, Mercy experienced the profound loss of both parents at a tender age due to the devastating impact of AIDS. These early hardships forged within her a deep-seated empathy for the less fortunate and a burning desire to make a difference.
Growing up in the south-western part of Uganda amidst the challenges of poverty and loss, Mercy's determination to pursue education remained unyielding. Through sheer perseverance and academic excellence, she earned a government scholarship to Makerere University, where she obtained a Diploma in Catering and Hotel Management. Despite facing financial constraints, her pursuit of higher education reflects her steadfast commitment to self-improvement and service to others.
Mercy's philanthropic journey took a significant turn during the challenging days of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021. While visiting her maternal relatives in Kabale, she encountered the distressing plight of families toiling in the Kiyoora Stone Quarry Hills. Witnessing children as young as three years old laboring alongside their parents in hazardous conditions stirred something deep within Mercy's compassionate heart.
Motivated by her own experiences of adversity and the belief that even a small act of kindness can spark hope, Mercy took action. With a simple gesture of distributing bread to the quarry children, she ignited a movement of compassion and support that would evolve into the Haddassah Child Care Ministry, which Mercy for Children supports today.
